Cornwall Mews, South Kensington

This traditional two storey mews house situated in secluded Cornwall Mews West in the heart of South Kensington now enjoys an additional floor as part of the total refurbishment programme undertaken by the owners. As the only source of natural light is from the front elevation and it was essential to retain the character of the house all sash windows were replaced by double glazed sash units sporting larger panes to maximise light into the rooms. Similarly, the main ground floor window was increased in size in a complementary style. Lightwells were also installed to introduce more natural light into the darker areas ie kitchen, the rear of the living room, the stairwell and the new bathroom on the top floor. The slate mansard coupled with the galvanised railing around the front elevation achieves a stylish set-back element to the new floor.
