We are not “tree-huggers”, but we believe that sustainability is not only good for the planet, but good business sense.
Our project at Shimoga illustrates how acceptable standards of environment can be created in adverse climatic conditions despite dropping air-conditioning. The techniques used are thousands of years old and revolve around the notion of keeping out all direct sun light, encouraging the natural flow or air in the building exhausting it through stack effect, constructing with high thermal mass, and using the landscape to cool the air coming to the building.
The net result is a very pleasant environment to work in without the excessive and artificial cost of air-conditioning that cannot be afforded – particularly in under developed parts of the world.
